British Parents Get High in Front of School

parents smoke pot in front of school kidsIt’s a situation that many people in America might have a hard time relating to, but Hillocks Primary School in Sutton-in-Ashfield, in some place called Nottinghamshire, has just released a statement to parents which reiterates a “no smoking pot in the front yard policy.” The reason why Americans could have trouble picturing this situation is because, due to the cultural position of marijuana in the U.S., there doesn’t need to be any rules against parents getting high (and drunk, actually) at their kids’ school. As you may be aware, getting high already violates other laws in America.

Think of the wee ones!

One of Hillocks Primary School’s head teachers, Louise Regan, sent the warning to parents in response to complaints from other parents. It reads as follows:

“We have now had a number of adults approach us to say they have concerns regarding the use of cannabis and alcohol by parents picking up children at home time. We are now logging those concerns and where appropriate will inform the Police. Can we please remind you that we have asked that you do not smoke outside the school gate.”

In other words, stoner parents are unabashedly being bad influences in front of impressionable children and a line has to be drawn somewhere. The funniest part might be Regan’s implication that this has already been addressed, meaning it’s to some extant a “start being better hiders” type of situation.

While this story inspires the imagination, rest assured — there aren’t pods of parents swarming at the front door for their pre-pickup smoke sesh. Louise Regan has made it clear that this is an isolated incident. But those involved should watch their asses.

Meanwhile, in America…

These types of situations are probably starting to pop up in a few parts of the United States, specifically those which have to some extant legalized marijuana. And it actually is to some extant understandable to accept the fact that some parents blaze on the regular. There’s a very decent reason for smoking pot and it’s called “medical marijuana.” Alcohol is another story. Apparently, some parents have also been smelling like alcohol at fun runs and stuff. Medical alcohol isn’t really accepted as a ‘thing’ these days.

In Tennessee and many other states, however, this kind of stuff would probably get shut down hard if it came up. It’s the law, and it’s certainly the social standard, to not smoke weed in front of kids and to, in fact, not smoke weed at all even for medical purposes. If parents found out that some parents were smoking weed in front of their kids — in front of their kids — they would want it to stop and they would want the stopping process to involve blood.

While England has its own laws, pot-smokers in Tennessee should be aware of how their state’s criminal justice system responds to marijuana use.
