NBA Baller Derrick Rose Accused Of Drugging, Gang Raping Ex-Girlfriend

Derrick RoseDrugging is NOT Consent

In life, everything tends to even out, and the Chicago sports scene knows it better than anyone right now. The Blackhawks won its third Stanley Cup in six years earlier this summer, and the Cubs are on its way to making an appearance in the MLB postseason for the first time since 2008.

Among all the good news, there is bad news, as well.

An ex-girlfriend of Bulls guard Derrick Rose is accusing the three-time NBA all star of drugging and gang raping her. This comes just a little over a week after Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane was accused of sexual assault in his hometown of Buffalo, New York.

He Said, She Said

There is nothing more messy than a ‘he said, she said’ case, especially when involving sexual assault. This situation happens to be one of them.

According to Rose’s ex, on the night of Aug. 26, 2013, Rose invited her to his Beverly Hills home and slipped a drug into her drink with the intent of raping her. She says she escaped with the help of a friend and went back to her apartment, but soon after, Rose and his friends broke into her apartment and performed unwanted sexual acts while she was incapacitated. (The two were in a non-exclusive relationship from 2011 until 2013.)

In response, Rose predictably denies the allegations saying they are untrue, and his lawyer, Lisa Cohen, believes it is just an attempt to “shake down” the 2010-11 NBA MVP for his money. The Bulls have declined to comment on the situation until further information has been released.

As to why she oddly waited two years in search of damages, she says she was “embarrassed” of what occurred that night.

Sexual Assault and Rape in Tennessee

As you can expect, rape cases vary from state to state. In Tennessee, if the allegations against Rose and his friends are proven true, they would be charged with rape since the victim was incapacitated during the act. The state law says it is punishable as a Class E felony, meaning one to six years in prison with a fine of no more than $3,000.
